The 2027 Georgia Legislative Agenda

Six common-sense proposals to protect Georgia consumers and families.

Surveillance Accountability

Automated surveillance cameras — license plate readers, AI tracking cameras, and facial recognition systems — are being deployed across Georgia with no law governing how the data is secured, how long it is kept, or who can access it.

The Ask

Require mandatory cybersecurity certification for all surveillance vendors before contracting with Georgia agencies

Door-to-Door Sales Reform

Georgia law already gives consumers the right to cancel a contract signed at their home within three business days — but courts have allowed companies to enforce those contracts even when they failed to follow the law.

The Ask

Make any contract formed in violation of the Door-to-Door Sales Act automatically void

Auto Sales Transparency

Georgia car buyers routinely pay $500–2,500 in fees they never knew about until they were at the signing table.

The Ask

Require dealers to provide an itemized pre-contract disclosure form before any signing

Consumer Credit Fairness

Federal law requires that consumer financing contracts include language preserving the borrower's right to raise defenses against the lender if the seller defrauded them.

The Ask

Codify that when the required notice is missing, it is deemed included by operation of law

Restore Georgia's Consumer Protection Law

Georgia's Fair Business Practices Act gives consumers a meaningful tool against deceptive businesses.

The Ask

Make clear that contract language — including "as-is" clauses, merger clauses, and general disclaimers — cannot be used to escape liability for GFBPA violations; the fine print does not erase the deception that induced a consumer to sign

Business Identity Transparency

Georgia requires businesses operating under trade names to register with the county clerk — but there is no central statewide database.

The Ask

Create a centralized, publicly searchable statewide DBA registry at the Secretary of State
